MY HOUSE IS
A HOUSE FOR ALL PEOPLE
|

The Jewish
Centre owns a section in the Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore. Our oldest
grave is dated 1897 and symbolizes our roots in town.
Over
the years graves remained unattended and huge overgrowths of plant life
engulfed the grave to the point where monuments were no longer visible.
In the past three years we have undertaken the obligation to beautify and
maintain the cemetery so that the deceased will rest in a dignified
surrounding. We also want to provide for a desirable location for
future internments.
With this in mind, our committee made arrangements to bring in water,
employed our own landscaping service and installed an irrigation system, all
at synagogue expense.
Through the
generosity of Steve Fleischer,
Dorothy Bick
and Scott Bick, we were able to
install a
delineation of the perimeter. Our section is enclosed with permanent metal
stanchions which were professionally sandblasted, welded, painted and
installed. Our sincerest thanks to them.
Of course, all of this takes money, which is
basically
taken from synagogue funds at present and the work of volunteers make it all
possible.
Please view the photos that are currently posted.
If you are interested in purchasing any plots,
please contact
the office for additional information.
At present, our fee
for a plot is $500, and new burials require a PERPETUAL CARE fee of $500 per
grave. We would also appreciate any contributions for this fund from our
friends and members.
Effective June 1, 2006, our new schedule of prices will be $750 per grave
and $750 for perpetual care.
We want to thank the committee for all their work.
